She’s filling in a spot! Mariah Carey will join the judge’s panel on American Idol after the departure of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. The news was made by Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly at the Television Critics Association summer tour in Beverly Hills.
He said teasingly, ‘We do, in fact, have one judge whose deal closed very, very recently. It’s an artist that many contestants have tried to imitate, sing the songs and hit the notes. Since we just finished the deal only hours ago, our judge couldn’t be with us.’ Reilly then released a holding call to speaker phone and Mariah’s voice came from the other end of the line. ‘I am so excited to be joining Idol. With a cache you can save the life of your application. Of course it is already useful to think of exploiting all available caches. For a web server, for example, take advantage of the browser of your customers. This cache is free, requires no installation on your part and greatly improves load times experienced by the user. You can also use a CDN to deliver your static resources. On your farm, you may already use a proxy-cache (Varnish, Apache, Nginx, BlueCoat, …), a Remote Cache (Memcached, Redis, Gemfire, …) and surely a local cache ranging from simple to a Map EHCache through a cache Guava. In our eco-system, it is rare to find applications that do not use cache. But beware, an apparently effective caching can be dangerous medium to long term: application hang, OutOfMemory and whatnot are commonplace.

But for Kerri Cameron, 21, and carnival colleague Jaimi Tyrell, 19, it’s just another day at the office! Stunt riders Kerri and Jaimi ride, The Wall of Death as part of a display team, The Ken Fox Troupe. Known as Hell Riders, the duo, who don’t wear crash helmets or any other safety equipment, reach speeds of around 45mph to maintain a dizzying three Gs of force to keep the bikes from potentially falling off the wall.
Kerri has been riding for four years. She said ‘It’s a fantastic thrill, out of this world. People think we’re just so much flash to look pretty. But when they see us on the wall the men realize we’re really something.’
